THE MATCH
Les Dogues were out to bounce back after falling to a shock 1-0 defeat in Angers last week, but things didn't look good against a resurgent Montpellier side as Paulo Fonseca's men found themselves a goal down to Issiaga Sylla's deft strike by half-time. The Guinea international left-back made no mistake as he capped a sweeping team move by latching onto Elye Wahi's flick on and beating Lucas Chevalier with a low, angled shot (24'). Wahbi Khazri missed a gilt-edge opportunity to make it 2-0 minutes later but things were definitely looking tough for the home side. Turnaround
With Rennes beating Reims on Saturday evening, LOSC needed a win to stay in fifth, but it wasn't until after the hour-mark that Les Dogues managed to push their way back into the match. But once they did that, they took over and created big chances for Benjamin André (47') and Angel Gomes, who hit the post with a sublime curler (58'), before danger man Jonathan David stepped up. It was Gomes who started the move, playing in Rémy Cabella on the left-hand side of the area. The mercurial playmaker had no trouble picking out a perfect pass for David to slot home first time and take his season goal tally to 20 - level with Kylian Mbappé atop the Ligue 1 Uber Eats scorers chart. LOSC weren't about to stop there, however, and within minutes they were ahead. Fit-again Brazilian left-back Ismaily - brought on by Fonseca in a half-time tactical switch - conjured a low, hard cross that Lecomte could only parry in to the path of Cabella to nod home the easiest of finishes and claim all three points. The result leaves Montpellier in 13th, 11 points clear of the drop, while LOSC reclaim fifth, three points shy of fourth-placed Monaco ahead of the principality club's Sunday clash at home to Lorient.
THE PLAYER: Rémy Cabella
The former Saint-Etienne, Montpellier and Marseille forward has made a sensational return to French football this season, and it has been performances like this one that have made him an instant fan favourite at the Stade Pierre Mauroy.
His on-ball savvy saw him fire a perfect cross for David to level it up at 1-1 got Lille back on track while his experience saw him on the spot to nod home the easiest of finishes after Benjamin Lecomte could only parry a fit-again Ismaily's low cross.
Now with five goals and six assists for the season, Cabella is a key figure in Paulo Fonseca's squad and one who has a real role to play as Les Dogues look to hold onto fifth place - or better - and European qualification. THE STAT: 17
LOSC have collected 17 points after falling behind this season, suggesting that this Cabella-led turnaround was anything but a fluke. In fact, LOSC are specialists in the field and have only been outdone by Marseille, who have claimed 18.
