FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifying Group D, Matchday 3
Grbavica Stadium, Sarajevo
Bosnia and Herzegovina - France
- Kick-off at 19:45 GMT After a busy week that saw Les Bleus draw 1-1 at home to Ukraine before making the long trip east to beat Kazakhstan 2-0 in Astana, France are now set to play their third and final World Cup qualifier of the week in the Bosnian capital of Sarajevo. Deschamps: 'Quality players'
Currently atop qualifying Group D with a two-point lead over Finland and Ukraine, France can close out the current international window - the last one before this summer's Euros - still on top should they take all three points at Grbavica Stadium. But coach Didier Deschamps won't be taking it lightly. "This Bosnian team has quality players who play for the best clubs in Europe. We are going to face a good team which, in terms of attack, has quality," said Deschamps before noting that, after several big names were rested for the Kazakhstan clash, his line-up would reign a more familiar feel. "In terms of composition, the French team will be closer to the one that started against Ukraine last Wednesday. We will take stock after the training session and I will decide tomorrow." Faith in Mbappé
This likely means a starting place for Kylian Mbappé who, after being all but marked out of the game against Ukraine, missed a penalty as he came off the bench in Astana on Sunday. "Against Ukraine, Kylian Mbappé was not at his best, but against Kazakhstan, he was much better," He was able to create several chances and even though he lacked some cutting edge, I know what Kylian is capable of doing. The truth of one match is not the truth of the next." Grizou, Lloris set for milestones
Mbappé is tipped to take the central striking role usually occupied by Olivier Giroud in a 4-4-2 formation, with the ever-present Antoine Griezmann - a hot tip to make it a record 46 consecutive appearances en Bleu - in a second striker's role. Mbappé's move inwards leave room for new legs on the flanks, with Ousamane Dembélé, a scorer against Kazakhstan, and Kingsley Coman likely to get the nod while Paul Pogba and PSG youth product Adrien Rabiot occupy the centre of the park. Meanwhile captain Hugo Lloris should celebrate going level with the legendary Thierry Henry with 123 France caps, leaving the Tottenham shoot-stopper second only to record-holder Lilian Thuram (142 caps).
