With the defensive problems that have been so apparent this season for AC Milan, plans are already being implemented for additions in the summer window – to hopefully avoid a similar situation next season.

Central defenders for Milan this season have seemingly been cursed. Simon Kjaer has spent time on the sidelines, as have Marco Pellegrino and Mattia Caldara.

The bigger issue is that the Rossoneri are in a situation where their three top choices, Fikayo Tomori, Pierre Kalulu and Malick Thiaw, are concurrently out, leaving Stefano Pioli to find emergency solutions.

As a result, investment has to be made into central defence. Whilst Jan-Carlo Simic has been a revelation, and Theo Hernandez has performed well centrally, the former should not be thrown into the deep end just yet, and Theo’s best position is still out wide.

L’Equipe writes that the Diavolo have already begun planning for the summer to evaluate any potential targets as early as possible – RC Lens’ defender, Facundo Medina, has emerged as an early candidate, and the club could reignite their interest in him, which dates back to 2021.

The 24-year-old Argentine has become an indispensable part of Franck Haise’s squad, and he will not leave in the winter unless an offer too good to turn down comes in.

Given Paris Saint-Germain, Monaco, and Inter are interested in the defender, Milan will face a challenge for him in the summer.
