Though PSG steamrolled Angers 6-1 on Friday, Thomas Tuchel hit out at the PSG board for their lack of summer signings, stating: “If we keep the squad we have today, honestly, we can’t ask for the same results.”
Tuchel even went on to state that signing Lyon’s Houssem Aouar would be a “dream”. With the window closing in just a few days, Alessandro Florenzi is the only new signing thus far.
After the manager’s post-match criticisms, sporting director Leonardo slammed Tuchel’s comments and defended the club’s hierarchy.
“I did not appreciate Tuchel’s comments. I did not understand them and I did not like them. The club did not like them either,” said Leonardo.
“We will see internally. If someone is not happy, we talk, there is no problem. But if he decides to stay, he must decide to respect the choices of sports management.
“We’re not here to go to trial. We have to have the spirit of suffering for the club, the spirit of sacrifice. The important thing is the club. We didn’t like it [the way Tuchel spoke].”
The victory took PSG up to second place in Ligue 1, one point behind Rennes, who have a game in hand on the defending champions.
