Forward Leonardo Campana will remain a Heron through the 2027 Major League Soccer season, signing a four-year contract extension with an additional option for 2028.
The new deal comes after Inter Miami exercised the option to complete the permanent transfer of Campana from English Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers, following the striker’s loan during the 2022 season.
"Leo is a natural goalscorer, and he has proven himself with Inter Miami. We’re pleased to keep a player of his caliber with us," said Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director Chris Henderson.
"Since his arrival in 2022, he has shown to be one of the brightest talents in the league, and has continued to put in top performances this season. We’re confident that he will continue to develop and strengthen our squad as we aim to achieve our goals together this season and beyond."
Campana added: "I’m really happy to renew my contract for four more years with the team that has made me feel at home since my first day. I’m happy, motivated and excited for everything to come at this Club, and for a great city like Miami.
Campana first joined on loan in January 2022, establishing himself as the starting forward for the expansion team. In months, he became the club’s second-leading scorer in 2022 with 12 goals in 28 games in all competitions. He’s grown to become an integral part of the team’s current success as well under new head coach Gerardo Martino, linking up with Lionel Messi to propel the Herons to the inaugural Leagues Cup title.
Inter Miami is currently fighting to secure an MLS playoff slot after falling to 14th place on the Eastern Conference table with 28 points in 26 games and a record of 8W-4D-14L. The Herons must get a result in their remaining eight games to remain in the running for postseason.
