In his first full interview as a Manchester United player, Leny Yoro has declared his new club is the “biggest in the world” and one “he is a ready to die for” when he is on the pitch.

The 18-year-old Frenchman completed a big-money move to Old Trafford last week from Lille, in a move that saw United outbid Real Madrid and then convince the player to join.

One of the people used in this process was United legend Rio Ferdinand, who Yoro said helped him make his decision.

“First of all, I was really impressed to speak with him and, yeah, we spoke like 10 minutes about Man United, so he helped me a lot to make my choice. It was really an honour to speak with him.”

“He just told me this is the biggest club in the world. You know, the fans, even the way to play, the training camp, everything is really big, is really incredible.”

Another United alumnus, Angel Gomes, also played a role, having played with Yoro for the last two seasons at Lille.

“So, yeah, every day I spoke with him about this and it helped me a lot to come here. He’s really happy for me. He sent me a message directly (after the transfer was completed).”

Erik ten Hag put the defender straight into his lineup for the 2-0 friendly win against Rangers on Saturday, and his new signing said after speaking to the manager, it is clear he only “wants players who really want to win.”

Yoro will be hoping to make his competitive debut for the club against Manchester City in the Community Shield at Wembley on August 10th, which comes six days before United’s first Premier League game against Fulham at Old Trafford.

On both his new league and his new home stadium, there was plenty of praise and excitement.

“The Premier League… this is where the football fully exists. So the fans, the level – because the level is crazy there, there is not an easy game – and, for me, the Premier League is the biggest in the world.”

“You know, it’s one of the biggest stadiums in the world. To be honest, I’m really happy to be here. I’m really happy to play for this team and I’m really excited to see you in Old Trafford.”

Yoro will next be in action on Saturday night when United take on Arsenal in the first game of their US tour.
