Having been on the verge of a move to Rennes earlier this summer, one-time France international Ruben Aguilar looks set to leave Monaco in the final hours of the transfer window – but instead of Brittany, the right-back will be heading for the north of France.
According to Foot Mercato, an agreement has been reached between Lens and the Principality club over a move for the former Montpellier man. The 30-year-old will sign for the Sang et Or for an initial fee worth €3.5m, which could eventually rise to €4m when including bonuses. Aguilar is set to arrive in Lens in the coming hours to undergo his medical before putting pen to paper on a contract with the Champions League outfit.
Aguilar leaves Monaco having made 123 appearances over four seasons – he has not featured this year – having previously turned out for Montpellier and Auxerre. His sole France cap came in a substitute cameo in a 2-0 defeat to Finland in 2020.
