Having left Angers for Wolves back in 2016, Moroccan international defender Romain Saïss could be in line for a return to French football, with RMC Sport reporting tonight that Lens are leading the race for his signing this summer.
The 33-year-old is currently at Beşiktaş, having joined the Istanbul-based side last summer. It had emerged last month that the centre-back was in talks with Marseille, with Les Phocéens even being the veteran’s preferred destination at that point. However, the arrival of Marcelino as the team’s new head coach has changed the situation.
However, RMC indicate that Lens have emerged as the favourites to bring Saïss back to Ligue 1 – with Lille also in contention – with Marseille having stepped back. Although an agreement over personal terms is within sight, Lens will still need to find an agreement with the Turkish outfit, who have set their asking price at €4m. Although an unnamed team from the Middle East are also interest, a move to Lens would offer the AS Valence academy product the chance to play in Champions League group stages this coming season.
