According to a report from Foot Mercato, RC Lens have beaten Toulouse FC in the race to sign AS Roma full-back Saud Abdulhamid (26) on loan. The Saudi Arabian international will sign with Les Sang et Or until the end of the season. Lens do not have the option to make this deal permanent.
It had looked likely that the right-back was going to be arriving in the south of France with Toulouse rather than in the north. He had been a long-term target for Toulouse, who had lost out to AS Roma last summer. However, the club were unable to get the deal over the line, with Foot Mercato writing that the club were obstructed by the number of non-EU players in their squad.
Lens have been in the market for defensive reinforcements. They had been considering a reunion with Przemyslaw Frankowski. L’Équipe reported that this transfer broke down as they were put off by how much it would have cost to bring the Polish international back to the Stade Bollaert-Delelis. Frankowski is now set to join Stade Rennais.
