RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano is reported to have agreed in principle to join Bayern Munich this summer.
The news, reported by French website Soccer Link, will come as a blow to several European clubs who were said to be interested in the France U21 international.
Upamecano’s contract with Leipzig runs until the summer of 2021, but there is a release clause that would allow him to leave at the end of the current season.
The figure to trigger that clause is reportedly €58m, but Bayern are keen to use the player’s desire to move to Munich to drive down that price.
Transfermarkt.de lists the player’s current value at €45m.
Upamecano is said to be the Bavarians’ top defensive target, and it seems they have landed their man ahead of the likes of Real Madrid, Paris-Saint Germain and Manchester City.
The Normandy native, who has represented his country since U16 level, joined Leipzig from RB Salzburg back in 2017.
