Leipzig plan to tie Benjamin Sesko down to new contract as Arsenal and Chelsea circle | OneFootball

RB Leipzig are making plans to extend Benjamin Sesko’s contract after an outstanding end to the season, according to the BBC.

Sesko has bagged 12 goals and three assists in his last 20 games for club and country, ending a promising debut campaign at Leipzig with 18 goals.

Leipzig signed him from sister club RB Salzburg for €25 million last summer. He joined on a contract that runs until 2028.

The German club wants to stave off interest from the Premier League and will try to lock him down with a new deal on improved terms.

Arsenal want a new first-choice centre-forward this summer after Gabriel Jesus struggled with injuries.

The Brazilian netted only five league goals, and the Gunners will bolster their striking options ahead of another title challenge next season.

Chelsea have also been linked with a move for the 20-year-old. The Blues want to provide competition for Nicolas Jackson and have Sesko on their radar.

Several other top European clubs have been credited with an interest in the promising centre-forward, but Leipzig want to keep him.

This second half of the season showed what he can do when he hits his stride, and his potential is frightening. They want him to continue his lethal partnership with Belgian star Lois Openda.

The pair can spearhead Leipzig’s Bundesliga title challenge next season, especially if they add one or two more top players.

It is unclear if the new deal will contain a release clause. Sesko’s current contract has one which stands at €65 million.
