RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku is set to be out until at least February with a knee problem.

Last week, the 25-year-old was forced to withdraw from France’s World Cup squad after suffering a training ground injury and was replaced by Eintracht Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani.

However, his club have now provided an update on the injury following an assessment which determined that he tore the lateral collateral ligament in his left knee.

Although Leipzig could not issue a timetable for his return, L’Equipe report that after initial hopes that he would return in six to eight weeks, he is now set to be sidelined longer.

They claim that he is now facing at least two-and-a-half months out of action, although he will not miss a significant amount of playing time given Germany’s winter break in January.

Nkunku is also reportedly in line to sign for Premier League side Chelsea in 2023 after an agreement between all parties was apparently reached earlier this year.
