RB Leipzig are closing in on an agreement to sign Xavi Simons from Paris Saint-Germain on a permanent transfer.

Simons is in the second of successive loan spells at Leipzig from PSG and has made a big impression in Germany.

Last season, the 21-year-old scored 10 goals and created 15 more in all competitions to earn inclusion in the Bundesliga Team of the Season. He has nine goals and assists during the current campaign and Leipzig are now nearing an agreement to sign Simons on a permanent basis.

BILD are reporting that an agreement is ‘very close’ between the two clubs with Leipzig having submitted a proposal in the region of €75m (£62.7m), just short of PSG’s €80m (£66.9m) asking price.

Leipzig are determined to beat competition from Europe’s top clubs to sign Simons permanently. Bayern Munich chased a deal to sign the Dutch international in the summer, while Arsenal, Manchester United and Barcelona have all been credited with interest.

PSG are set to make a huge profit on the player, having re-signed Simons from PSV Eindhoven for a fee of just €6m (£5m) in 2023. Having initially allowed the midfielder to move on, PSG activated a buy-back clause after Simons ended the 2022/23 campaign as the Eredivisie’s leading scorer.
