Ricardo Pereira has vowed to “come back stronger” from the knee ligament injury that has prematurely ended the Leicester right-back’s season.

The Portugal international damaged his ACL in a challenge with Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish during the Foxes’ 4-0 win last Monday.

Ricardo continued on after the collision to finish the game, but received the bad news from a scan on Wednesday.

“I never thought this could happen to me, but surely no one thinks that,” the 26-year-old posted on Instagram on Sunday.

“It was a shock to receive the scan result, the injury didn’t feel this bad. Nothing I have achieved so far has been easy and the hardest time is yet to come.

“But I have no doubts I will come back stronger, especially with the help of my loved ones and all of you.

“Thank you for all your messages and support.

“Now it’s time to recover well without rush, working the body and the mind. One step at a time.”

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers has said that he expects the defender to be sidelined for between four and six months.

That would mean Ricardo would miss Euro 2020 should it go ahead as scheduled in the summer.
