Leicester have confirmed the signing of veteran goalkeeper Asmir Begović, who has agreed a one‑year contract to become the club’s first permanent addition of the summer under manager Martí Cifuentes.
Begović, who was released by Everton at the end of the 2024/25 season, brings an abundance of Premier League and Championship experience—having famously featured for Stoke City, Chelsea, Bournemouth, and most recently Queens Park Rangers under Cifuentes in the Championship the season before last.
His arrival reunites him with the Spaniard, who has publicly backed Benedović’s leadership and reliability in high-pressure environments. “His career speaks for itself... the experience and leadership he has,” Cifuentes noted earlier in the year.
The capture is being heralded by club insiders as a shrewd short-term acquisition: Begović is expected to provide stability and mentorship in a potentially testing campaign as Leicester aim to mount a strong league challenge.
Despite his veteran status, the goalkeeper remains physically capable and mentally sharp—a trait valued by Cifuentes in his style of play.
Begović served as a first-choice keeper for QPR in 2023/24, amassing 45 appearances but also enduring some high-profile errors, which he largely shrugged off under the full confidence of Cifuentes.
He joins a goalkeeping cohort that also includes young talents such as Jacub Stolarczyk, with speculation rife over whether current number one Mads Hermansen might move on to Premier League suitors in the coming days.
