People will probably soon be able to say Ruud van Nistelrooy failed at Leicester City Football Club without doubt. At present it remains mathematically possible, although terribly unlikely, for City to survive this Premier League season. Demotion to the Championship is now ever so likely for LCFC, unfortunately. Though the Dutchman never had the appropriate squad of players, or New Year signings, to save the side from relegation.
I wonder how well the former Manchester United striker would do from the start of an epic EPL campaign with the right roster to compete with. Potentially not very well, judging by some of the flawed and ill-advised strategy, formations and selections RvN has come up with whilst on Filbert Way. But he might not be at King Power Stadium for too much longer if reports are accurate.
It is said that Leicester are examining potential managerial candidates to take over from the 48-year-old at some point. However, most stories also suggest that RvN is in no immediate danger from City chairman Aiyawatt 'Khun Top' Srivaddhanaprabha. Maybe van Nistelrooy will hold out until the summer. He'll have to win a few matches and integrate some exceptional LCFC youth stars in order to retain his position, as I see the situation at least.
Nevertheless the Foxes owner and, presumably, the director of football have supposedly selected a manager to eventually replace Van Nistelrooy. So who is this mystery ex-Derby County boss? And is his arrival at KPS feasible?
Liam Rosenior, who once managed Leicester's Midlands rivals the Rams, is apparently on the wishlist. First of all, I can't see RvN holding on too much longer. The Foxes may stick by their current head coach until the end of 2024/25 for financial reasons. Meanwhile Rosenior appears a plausible and interesting prospective recruit:
