Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury wants his long-term future sorted out before the start of the new season, according to the Daily Mail.

The 25-year-old has just one year left on his existing contract with Leicester, who are reluctant to sanction his departure this summer.

Choudhury fell out of favour under former Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers and spent last season on loan at Watford in the Championship.

The Englishman was a prominent figure for the Hornets racking up 36 Championship appearances as they finished the campaign in mid-table.

New Leicester manager Enzo Maresca sees the former England under-21 international midfielder as a part of his plans for the upcoming season.

However, if a suitable proposal arrives, the Foxes will consider selling Choudhury this summer.

James Maddison and Harvey Barnes are the latest high-value players to depart King Power Stadium during the summer transfer window.

They secured moves to Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United respectively, allowing Leicester to pocket nearly £80 million from their departures.

However, several others could leave the club before the window slams shut, including Kelechi Iheanacho, Wilfred Ndidi, Boubakary Soumare and Timothy Castagne.

Choudhury also makes that list, with the midfielder keen to know where his long-term future lies before Leicester kick-off their Championship campaign against Coventry City on August 6.

He has been linked with a move to Southampton, who were relegated from the Premier League last season alongside Leicester.

Southampton have asked Leicester to keep them informed about the developments surrounding Choudhury’s situation, but they have not launched a formal bid.

The Saints see the Englishman as a potential replacement for Romeo Lavia, who has emerged as a high-value target for several top-flight clubs, including Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal.

Southampton are demanding at least £50m for their star midfielder, but they have not received any official proposals for his signature.
