Leicester make a move as they look to win the race to sign Lille midfielder Soumare

Leicester are reportedly preparing a £35m bid to sign Boubakary Soumare as the Foxes look to beat off competition from a host of clubs for the Lille midfielder.

Soumare has attracted significant interest from the Premier League in recent years with Leicester having monitored the 22-year-old over the past two seasons, the likes of Tottenham, Manchester United, West Ham and Newcastle all previously linked.

The France u21 international has starred for the Ligue 1 side this season, with Lille currently leading Paris Saint-Germain in the title race by a point with just three games of the campaign remaining.

Soumare signed for Lille as a teenager after failing to break through at PSG, before establishing himself as one of the most talented young players in the division to earn interest from abroad.

The Sun are reporting that Leicester are now lining up a £35m bid to prise him from the French side, as the Foxes’ hierarchy prepare to back manager Brendan Rodgers amid rumoured interest in his services from Spurs.

Rodgers has improved Leicester once more after narrowly missing out on a top four finish last season with the club currently third in the Premier League and on course to secure Champions League football.

That achievement will see additional funds handed to Rodgers to restructure and strengthen his squad, the arrival of Soumare potentially adding to an exciting midfield contingent featuring the likes of Youri Tielemans, Wilfred Ndidi and James Maddison.

Leicester are keen to secure a deal for the midfielder who has already made more than 100 appearances for Lille, whilst the Foxes are also understood to be interested in signing a new striker with both Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard and Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham linked.
