Leicester defender Caglar Soyuncu has not been at his best for some time, according to The Sun's Tom Barclay.

The 25-year-old has been a regular member of the Foxes' backline over the last two years, but Barclay believes he's struggling for form at the moment.

How has Soyuncu started this season?

Soyuncu has been an ever-present at the back this term, playing every minute in the Premier League.

However, the East Midlands club have not kept a clean sheet since the opening day back in August, and they were somewhat fortunate to manage that as Wolves wasted a hatful of chances at the King Power Stadium.

The team's lack of solidity at the back has been a major concern, and has led to them winning just two of their seven league matches so far.

According to WhoScored, Soyuncu has only been Leicester's 12th-best player this season, as he has earned an average WhoScored match rating of just 6.56.

What has Barclay said about Soyuncu?

Barclay has claimed that the 41-cap international has been off the pace for a while, having previously shone at Leicester when he first came into the team.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I think Soyuncu’s been underperforming for quite a long time now, for someone who I think most of us thought was a real find from Leicester’s point of view.”

Will Soyuncu be dropped?

Brendan Rodgers has remained patient with Soyuncu, who Transfermarkt value at £40.5m, thus far, but the 6 foot 2 centre-back may be running out of chances before he is removed from the starting XI.

It seems that Soyuncu has been a little fortunate to retain his place in the team in recent weeks, and is largely only playing due to injuries to other members of Leicester's defence. Wesley Fofana broke his leg in pre-season, while Jonny Evans and Jannik Vestergaard have also battled with fitness issues since the start of the campaign.

Yet Rodgers does have other options in Daniel Amartey and Filip Benkovic, and he hinted earlier this month that the latter will get his chance at some point to impress.

This suggests that the Northern Irishman could be willing to change his backline in the hope of turning the side's form around. If this is the case, Soyuncu may be at risk of dropping to the bench sooner rather than later, unless he improves his game considerably in the next few games.
