Leicester join race for William Carvalho, available at cut-rate price
Nampalys Mendy proved to not be the successor to N’Golo Kanté that Leicester were hoping for and he will likely leave on a free transfer this summer, with Udinese and Trabzonspor believed to be interested.
Now, the Foxes are on the hunt for a new defensive midfielder and could turn to a player with a wealth of big-game experience to guide them through the Champions League.
According to Portuguese outlet O Jogo, Leicester City have joined the likes of Inter Milan and Monaco in the race to land Real Betis star William Carvalho, who is reportedly available at a cut-rate price.
The 28-year-old, who has only featured nine times this season due to a spinal disc herniation, could now leave for £14m instead of £18m due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Should the sale go through for £14m, former club Sporting Lisbon stand to make £3.5m from the sale as they hold 25 per cent of the player’s economic rights.
On the international stage, Carvalho has earned 59 caps for Portugal, starring in 1-0 victories in both the Euro 2016 and 2019 UEFA Nations League finals.
