Leicester City are on the verge of appointing Manchester City first-team coach Enzo Maresca as the club’s new manager.
That’s according to The Telegraph, who report on Thursday that Maresca is the Foxes’ prime target to take charge at the King Power Stadium after the Italian impressed during his interview with chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha and director of football Jon Rudkin.
The recently relegated club also reportedly interviewed Dean Smith, Steven Gerrard and Scott Parker for the role, but Maresca appears to be the frontrunner for the role.
Former Leicester midfielder Esteban Cambiasso is said to have been consulted for his opinion regarding the appointment.
Maresca returned to Manchester City and became part of Pep Guardiola’s backroom staff last summer having previously worked for the treble winners’ youth department.
The 43-year-old former midfielder — who played for a number of clubs including West Brom, Juventus and Sevilla — has previous experience of management in Italy with Parma but was sacked after just 14 matches in charge.
