Harry Winks has warned that Leicester City must concentrate on ensuring their performance is at the right standard if they are to come away with all three points against Cardiff City on Friday night.

The Foxes have been excellent so far this season, winning 19 of the 24 league games they have played, resulting in them having a comfortable lead at the top of the table.

Leicester have only dropped points in a handful of games this season, with Boxing Day’s game against Ipswich Town the latest.

Enzo Maresca’s men were on course for all three points after Stephy Mavididi put the visitors ahead thanks to an excellent curled finish.

However, the Foxes were unable to see out the win, with Ipswich sealing a point apiece thanks to Jannik Vestergaard’s own goal.

Winks isn’t looking back on the result against Ipswich, but instead is looking ahead to the Cardiff game on Friday.

The midfielder expects it to be a tough game, as the Bluebirds have targets of their own. But he feels that if they focus on themselves and approach the game in the right manner, they are humble enough to go into the game with the right mentality to win the match.

Winks told the club’s official website: “Every team in this league is a test. There are no easy games. We say that before every game. Whoever we play against, whether it's bottom of the league or top two, top three, there's always different challenges and teams who set up in different ways and have different strengths.

“We expect Cardiff to be another tough game, away from home as well, which is going to be difficult with their atmosphere and their crowd wanting to beat us. We feel every team wants to beat us at the moment.

“But as long as we focus on ourselves, and we approach the game in the right way, which we do, we know we're humble enough to go into every game with the right mentality to keep winning and to keep trying to perform.

“Then hopefully we can come away with a good result. You can't control the result, but how we approach it and how we go into the game is the most important thing, because you know that every team has quality in this league. You can't go into games thinking you're going to win, because you get punished.”

Harry Winks’ stats for the 2023/24 season

Winks has been a very important player for Leicester since joining the club from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.

The 27-year-old lost his way with Spurs in the last season or two, as he was forever in and out of the starting XI.

But since being at the King Power Stadium, Winks has been valued and appreciated by Leicester, appearing in all but one league game this season.

Maresca has relied heavily on the midfielder, as he’s brought composure and experience to that area of the pitch. Winks has done his defensive duties well, but he has also chipped in at the other end, netting in the wins over Queens Park Rangers and West Bromwich Albion.

Winks will be looking to continue his excellent form right up until the end of the season, where he will be hoping Leicester are back in the top flight.

Leicester City to return to winning ways against Cardiff City

The Foxes will have been disappointed to come away with just a point at Portman Road on Tuesday, given they were leading for most of the game, but in hindsight, it is probably a good point.

Leicester know pressure is on them now to win the league, given how well they have performed, but they have got to ignore the noise and continue doing what they have been doing.

They face another difficult trip on Friday against Cardiff, with the Bluebirds looking to keep up with the play-off places. But Leicester should have more than enough to come away with three points, but as Winks says, their mentality needs to be right.
