Asmita Ale has joined Leicester City in loan move from Tottenham Hotspur. The versatile defender comes with Women’s Super League experience and strengthens the Foxes for the second half of the 2023/24 season.

Having progressed through the ranks of Aston Villa’s academy, Ale became a key member of their promotion to the WSL in 2019/20. Adapting to life in the top flight of women’s football quickly, she made 18 appearances in Villa’s debut WSL campaign. She also helped them record three clean sheets in the final five games of the 2020/21 season.

Ale recorded the highest number of interceptions of any player in the league, and ended the campaign on a high after being named Players’ Player of the Season.

This standout season helped Ale gain the attention of Spurs. She signed for them in the 2021/ 22 season, helping keep eight clean sheets across 20 games in all competitions. However, with only eight appearances at Spurs this season, Ale is excited at the opportunity to get more game time at Leicester.

Speaking to LCFC.com, Ale said: “I am really excited to be here and grateful for the opportunity. This is a great Club to come to and I’m looking forward to getting started.

“At my age, it’s important to have game-time to develop as a player. It will be good for me joining Leicester and hopefully I can help the team put some more points on the board.”

The England youth international brings further experience to Willie Kirk’s squad and bolsters the club’s defensive options. Leicester have already signed attackers Saori Takarada and Yuka Momiki in this January window. Foxes fans will be hoping for more points on the board to avoid a stressful relegation battle like previous seasons.

Ale will link up with her new teammates as Leicester prepare to take on Everton in the WSL on Sunday.
