Leicester City set to push ahead with transfer as Chelsea hand Foxes significant blow

Leicester City have been very, very quiet in the current January transfer window as they juggle with the problem of having multiple players either injured or away on international duty.

The Foxes have a huge clash on Monday night with their nearest challengers to their top spot in the Championship in the form of Ipswich Town, and even though they're 10 points clear at the top, head coach Enzo Maresca will be somewhat worried about current squad depth.

And his fears are set to be compounded even further - and it involves Premier League side Chelsea.

Casadei's Leicester deal set to be terminated by Chelsea

According to The Telegraph reporter Matt Law, Mauricio Pochettino is set to recall Cesare Casadei from his loan at the King Power Stadium to add to his own squad for the second half of the season.

Maresca pushed to land Casadei in the summer following his impressive performances at the FIFA Under-20's World Cup for Italy, and he succeeded in his pursuit.

However, Casadei didn't start very often in Championship action for the Foxes, with a midfield pairing of Wilfred Ndidi and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall favoured ahead of Harry Winks as the holding midfielder.

In his 22 league outings for City, Casadei started just the eight times, scoring two goals in that time, and his final meaningful contribution came in the form of a goal and assist earlier this month in a 3-2 FA Cup round three win over Millwall at The Den.

Despite Chelsea having plenty of options in their engine room though as of now, the West London outfit have decided to bring the 21-year-old back to Stamford Bridge to be a part of their Premier League squad, despite not featuring regularly from the start in the division below.

Leicester boss Enzo Maresca this week was adamant that his side could not do any incoming transfer business unless a player left - and this could now be the catalyst for the Foxes to finally make a signing.

And according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Casadei heading back to Chelsea will now see them push ahead to try and land Inter Milan midfielder Stefano Sensi.

The 28-year-old, who has nine caps for the Italy national team, has been linked with a move to Leicester recently, with some reports even suggesting a €2 million agreement has already been made between the two clubs.

With Casadei now set to come off Leicester's wage bill, it should allow some room to manouevre for the Championship's table-toppers, and with Wilfred Ndidi out injured for months with a muscle injury, it will provide Maresca with some much-needed depth and experience in the middle of the park.
