After a strong season with Celtic, many had tipped Filip Benković to make a permanent switch to Scotland or to play a part at Leicester City for the current campaign.

However, the Croatian has not played a single minute for the Foxes first-team this season, thanks to the strong form of Jonny Evans and Çağlar Söyüncü.

According to The Athletic, Leicester “pulled the plug” on a loan move to Stoke City in the summer after failing to land a replacement for Harry Maguire.

However, there’s no first team opening for the Croatian.

Benković has been playing with Leicester U23s and is expected to leave on loan in January … on the condition Leicester sign a centre-back.

“For Filip, it’s a very difficult position for him,” manager Brendan Rodgers said last month.

“He’s fighting every day to be fitter and stronger.

“We’ll see where he’s at in January, whether he needs games with more pressure, or whether he stays and is that support player should anything happen.”

Leicester purchased Benković from Dinamo Zagreb last summer for €14.5m but he has made just a single 28-minute cameo with the Foxes’ first-team.
