Leicester City must have strongest winning mentality against Everton says Miquel | OneFootball

Leicester City manager Amandine Miquel says that her side must have a stronger winning mentality than opponents Everton when the pair meet at The King Power Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Both sides go into the match winless and having scored just one goal in the Barclays Women’s Super League so far this season.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Leicester City boss Miquel said that she is expecting a tight game and that the team with the strongest winning mentality could come out on top.

“Based on what they’ve done so far, they’re a team that are a bit like us where they’re doing well but they’re having a slow start, even though what they’re doing is good,” Miquel said. “It will be an interesting game to see two opponents that have had a slow start but who are producing and performing with interesting game plans.

“I think it’ll be a tight game. We will need to have a winning mentality where we want to do more than the opponent. Every opponent wants to win and have good performances, so the mental aspect at this point can make the difference. They will want to come and get something here, so we will have to be strong mentally to want a result more than them.”

Leicester City’s struggles in-front of the opposition goal is puzzling for Miquel but she believes that some of her attacking players are potentially a little low on confidence.

She said “It’s strange because in pre-season, I thought we had a good offensive connection between our players. It is just about finding that again and giving everyone a chance. We will get more of that with some players being out.

“I think we have good potential but they may be lacking confidence right now offensively.”

The defensive side of Leicester City’s game has been more impressive with The Foxes conceding just once more than Barclays Women’s Super League leaders Manchester City so far. Miquel is seeing improvements in that area of the pitch.

She said “I’m a manager that likes offensive [play], so I’m not doing what I like most but I think that defending is an important part. It is something that was not done well last season, so that’s why we have focused on that first.

“It is improving. I have analysed some stats from the last four games and compared it to last season. We are improving a lot on the stats but from what I see, we can still do a lot better.”
