Recent issues with Financial Fair Play have put a dampener on Leicester City's impressive season so far and could affect their transfer decisions in the future.

The Foxes have led the Championship table for most of the season, with boss Enzo Maresca looking to bounce back quickly from last season's relegation from the Premier League.

While recent form has allowed clubs like Ipswich Town and Leeds United back in the race for the title, the club will hope they have the talent and experience in the squad to get back into good form and continue their march toward promotion.

However, recent reports about their financial issues are threatening to hamper their summer plans and could even have a big effect on the squad's morale.

Recent reports from The Sun have said that Leicester could be set for a points deduction next season, due to breaching the Financial Fair Play rules over the past three-year period.

The club look likely to exceed the £83 million loss permitted by the league, which could incur a points deduction once the decision is made regarding their punishment.

It is reported that the decision will not be made until after this season, by which time the Foxes hope they have already won promotion to the Premier League, and will not have to contend with a negative points tally while still in the second division.

They will regret not cashing in on Ndidi earlier in the season

With news that the club's spending could be impacted by their financial issues, the decision not to sell Wilfred Ndidi before his contract expired looks to be an error by the Foxes management.

There were reports that a number of clubs were interested in a move for Ndidi earlier in the season. Prior to his injury in December, clubs including Barcelona and Newcastle were linked with a move for the midfielder.

He would have been a low-cost option for both teams, given his contract is up at the end of the season, although a player of his talent would still have brought in a decent fee. Every penny will count with Financial Fair Play now a big issue for Leicester, and getting a multi-million-pound fee while also getting his reported £75,000 a week salary off the wage bill would've been a huge bonus for the club.

, Leicester were put in the position they were in partially due to the performances of Ndidi.

He played 21 times for Leicester in the Championship in 2023/24, partnering Keirnan Dewsbury-Hall and Harry Winks in midfield, while also contributing two goals and five assists for the Foxes.

He was clearly important to the side, but he has missed the last six months of his Leicester contract and is unlikely to sign a new deal with such big clubs interested in his signature.

Hindsight is indeed 20-20 but given how things have panned out, the decision not to sell him in the summer or January may now be one that the Foxes regret.

Cashing in when interest was high would have raised some much-needed cash, while the performances of the likes of Winks and Dewsbury-Hall in his absence suggest that Leicester would've been ok without him.

It was a gamble to keep hold of him given his contract situation and now, following his injury and the recent FFP revelations, it looks like one that hasn't paid off.
