Leicester City are the latest club to be linked with Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah ahead of the summer.

The Foxes are currently embroiled in an intense promotion race in the Championship, but it appears they are already planning for life in the top-flight.

Leicester City eyeing Eddie Nketiah transfer

The above link comes via Football Transfers, who report that the Foxes have joined two Premier League sides in the chase to sign Nketiah this summer.

Those sides are said to be Crystal Palace and Brentford, with the latter eyeing an Ivan Toney replacement, whilst Palace are said to be long-term admirers.

Leicester City reportedly believe that the player's wages will not be an issue if they go on to get promoted.

The report also claims Jamie Vardy is likely to move on at the end of the season, which will free up £150,000 per week in terms of wages.

Nketiah is said to be leaning towards a move to Brentford, but Leicester's interest could perhaps change things.

The above interest, including Leicester City's, comes after Nketiah has reportedly been told that he can leave the Emirates Stadium this summer.

That is according to a report from TEAMTalk last month, which claimed that the 24-year-old had been identified by Mikel Arteta as a player the club can afford to lose this summer as the Gunners look to revamp their squad.

In fact, Arsenal were said to be open to Nketiah moving on in January, however, TEAMtalk claim they could not find an adequate replacement, so did not sanction any exit.

Arsenal are currently in a title race in the Premier League, and will naturally want to strengthen even further in the summer.

One player the club are supposedly eyeing is former Coventry City and current Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyokeres.

The arrival of the Swedish striker, or indeed any other, would see Nketiah's minutes reduced further.

So far this season, the 24-year-old has played 33 times in all competitions, but is generally seen as a squad player at the Emirates Stadium.

Potential Leicester City obstacles

Of course, there are obstacles to Leicester City's reported interest, which cannot be ignored.

If the club do not get promoted, for example, given the likely wage demands of the player, this would surely be a non-starterwould be a complete non-starter.

Furthermore, it remains to be seen what impact the club's current financial predicament has on their summer transfer business.

Earlier this week, the club announced losses of £89.7 million for the 2022/23 season, which comes after they were already charged back in March by the Premier League for allegedly breaching profit and sustainability rules, the consequences and outcome of which is yet unknown.
