Leicester City have set their sights on Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks, according to the Telegraph.

The Foxes are determined to mount a successful promotion challenge following their recent relegation to the Championship.

New Leicester manager Enzo Maresca has identified Winks as a prime target. Negotiations are underway to secure his services.

While talks are ongoing between the two clubs for the potential transfer of England international James Maddison, Leicester’s pursuit of Winks is a separate endeavour.

Maresca believes the midfielder could play a pivotal role in the squad during their Championship campaign.

Winks has just over a year left on his contract and Tottenham will allow him to leave as part of a summer overhaul led by new manager Ange Postecoglou.

With limited first-team opportunities in recent seasons, the Hemel Hempstead-born midfielder spent last season on loan at Sampdoria in Serie A.

He will be searching for regular game time and could find it at Leicester.

Leicester have also registered their interest in signing Manchester City goalkeeper Zack Steffen.

Maresca, who previously worked as part of Pep Guardiola’s backroom staff at the Etihad Stadium, is familiar with the 28-year-old United States international.

Steffen serves as Ederson’s back-up, but a move to Leicester could tempt him.

Leicester have been looking for a replacement for Kasper Schmeichel since his departure to OGC Nice a year ago.

Despite the efforts of Danny Ward and Daniel Iversen last season, the club was unable to avoid Premier League relegation.

Maresca’s connections with City will aid his pursuit of potential loans or permanent deals for their players.
