In a recent print edition, Marca claimed that Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana is on the radar of Real Madrid. It is understood that Los Blancos have set their sights on the French centre-back as they look to strengthen their squad for the future.

Fofana’s Excellent Debut Season At The King Power Stadium

The 21-year-old is yet to make an appearance for the Foxes in this campaign as he is still sidelined with a serious injury. However, Fofana was a breath of fresh air in the Premier League last season when he featured in 42 matches for Leicester, picking up one assist on all fronts.

The Marseille-born sensation proved himself to be a rock at the back for Brendan Rodgers’ side based on his average of 1.8 tackles, 2.2 interceptions and 3.3 clearances per game in the Premier League. He even distributed possession accurately from the back, as evident from his pass success rate of 86.4% in league football last season (stats via whoscored).

Should Real Madrid Move In For Fofana?

Fofana can get stuck in with a few crunching tackles to make life difficult for the opposition attackers. He usually times his challenges well to earn possession back for his side on the defensive end of the field.

The French defensive ace doesn’t take too many chances when clearing the danger at the back. He is also a tidy passer who can use his strong 1.90m frame to win his fair share of aerial duels inside his half.

A centre-half of Fofana’s skill set and potential will be a brilliant signing for Los Blancos even though the player has not played competitive football for a long time due to injury. At 21, the Leicester prospect has got the makings of a top talent, so Carlo Ancelotti would be wise to engineer a move to bring him to the Spanish capital this summer.

Fofana will undoubtedly add a lot of quality to Ancelotti’s defence and could go on to become a fan favorite at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. All in all, the Madrid giants should think about moving in for the French talent but might have to pay a hefty fee as his current Leicester contract is set to expire in 2025.
