Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted ‘some players are out of our price range’ in January, amid reports the Foxes are interested in a deal for Inter midfielder Christian Eriksen.

Eriksen is expected to leave the Nerazzurri before the end of the January transfer window with multiple clubs in the Premier League, most recently Leicester and the Danish international’s former club Tottenham Hotspur, studying a move.

However, Inter’s refusal to contribute to paying Eriksen’s salary as part of a loan deal is thought to be a stumbling block for all the 28-year-old’s suitors.

Talking to reporters about Leicester’s transfer plans ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup tie at Brentford, as quoted by Football Italia, Rodgers said: “We are always optimistic here but there has to be a sense of reality.

“In this window if we can bring in an attacking midfielder that would be fantastic.

“We have lost an attacking midfielder in Dennis Praet who is going to be out until April we think, that is a big chunk of the season.

“Ideally we would like to bring in someone who is more offensive if that player is available, but it is very difficult.

“Some will be out of our price range and we won’t be able to do it.

“If there is someone who can come in and support us in this period then we will look to do that.”

Reports in the Italian media this week have linked Eriksen with Arsenal, Manchester United and even a potential return to Spurs, where he spent six and a half years under Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mourinho.

Eriksen has made 14 appearances in all competitions for Inter this season but he has been unable to provide any goals or assists.
