Leicester have, in recent days, touched base with Ajax to ask about the forward, his availability and how much he is likely to cost.

Bergwijn has Premier League experience, gained through a spell at Tottenham Hotspur, and Leicester would hope he could hit the ground running.

He scored 12 times in 24 Eredivisie games for Ajax last season and 13 overall as they enjoyed a season to forget.

Ajax recovered from a disastrous start to eventually finish fifth, meaning no Champions League football for the club in the new campaign.

Bergwijn could be moved on from the Amsterdam club before the transfer window closes.

The attacker also has interest from other clubs and if a move to Leicester does not happen could still leave Ajax.
