Wilfred Ndidi was forced off the pitch against Brighton. Now, Leicester boss Ruud van Nistelrooy has provided a Wilfred Ndidi injury update.
Leicester City had a pretty good weekend. When they looked down and out against Brighton and Hove Albion, a Steve Cooper side would have rolled over and accepted defeat. However, the Foxes fought ten times harder under Ruud van Nistelrooy and clawed back a point.
However, it did come at a cost. With Leicester's heightened tempo came an unfortunate injury blow to one of their key players, Wilfred Ndidi.
The midfielder, who has started every Premier League game for Leicester this season, was forced off before the hour mark. After the match, Ruud van Nistelrooy spoke more about his injury situation.
According to a report from Leicester Mercury, Ruud van Nistelrooy admitted there was a problem with Wilfred Ndidi, which left him with no choice but to be removed from the game. However, RvN hopes that his midfielder will come back from injury in no time.
In his own words, van Nistelrooy said: “Wilf, when he comes off you know there’s a problem. I hope it’s minor. He felt a slight strain in the hamstring. Hopefully it’s not too much. We’ll see how quick we can get him back.”
It is certainly true that alarm bells ring whenever Ndidi isn't on the pitch. Leicester dealt with the omission from a tactical perspective but fans were definitely concerned to not see him providing the engine.
After all, Ndidi is Leicester's most important player. This is why he often plays every available minute for the Foxes. Leicester do not work around Ndidi but instead, Ndidi makes Leicester work. This was the case under Cooper and it will continue to be the case under Ruud.
Next up, Leicester City face Newcastle at St James Park. It is a difficult fixture to get right and Ruud van Nistelrooy understands how rampant the Newcastle support will be. Therefore, he will hope to have the Nigeria international back at the heart of the midfield.
