Legia Warsaw have confirmed that they will be selling commemorative merchandise for Artur Boruc’s testimonial between two sides close to the goalkeeper’s heart. The Celtic legend was dubbed ‘The Holy Goalie’ and is fondly remembered from his six years in Glasgow’s East End. The Scottish Champions travel to the Polish capital to play a friendly for Boruc’s testimonial.

The game will take place on Wednesday 20 July and will be the first meeting of the sides since the controversial European qualifier at Murrayfield on 6 August 2014.

Despite winning the second leg of the Champions League qualifier 2-0 – to give the Polish champions a 6-1 aggregate win, Celtic progressed due to Legia bringing on a substitute who was suspended.

UEFA awarded Celtic a 3-0 win meaning that the Scottish Champions progressed to the next round winning 4-3 on aggregate. Legia argued that Celtic should have conceded the tie although it didn’t do Celtic much good as we lost in the next qualifying round anyway. This year, thankfully we go straight into the Group stages of the Champions League.

Ange Postecoglou will use the game as part of the pre-season preparations for the Premiership campaign kicking off against Jim Goodwin’s Aberdeen on the 31st of July.
