Chelsea’s dire loss yesterday was riddled with poor individual showings, and pundits on numerous TV channels absolutely tore apart Levi Colwill for his feeble contribution to the game.
The defender was particularly guilty for Man U’s second goal. Anthony’s cross swung in and Colwill just crumpled to the floor as Scott McTominay passed him. We’re not sure if he wanted a foul or if he was just weak, either way it was embarrassing.
On Premier Sports, Neil Lennon pointed out that this was a centre back playing at full back, who was so weak as the cross came in that they should be ashamed. Alan Shearer said much the same thing on Prime Video, quoted here by the Chelsea Chronicle.
“Really weak defending here from Colwill. Both of them were at it. Both of them have their arms on each other. It went to VAR but it was never a foul, it was never going to be enough to be turned over.
“Defenders should be dealing with it. But credit to McTominay, he wants it more than the defender and it wins the game for them.”
There had actually already been warning signs for Chelsea, with McTominay heading an earlier chance right at Robert Sanchez. But the team, and Colwill in particular, did not respond, and were eventually punished.
