Napoli icon Marek Hamsik insists new Inter Milan signing Piotr Zielinski is one of the finest midfielders in football.
The Slovakian legend spent the vast majority of his career at the San Paolo Stadium. He joined as a young player in 2007 following a stint at Brescia, before leaving the club as a decorated veteran in February 2019.
The 37-year-old played alongside some top-notch players during his time in southern Italy, including the likes of Edinson Cavani and Gonzalo Higuain.
In his later years at the club, Hamsik formed a midfield partnership with Zielinski, and he only has great things to say about the Poland international.
The retired midfielder named Ezequiel Lavezzi as his best teammate. However, he reserved special praise for Inter’s new star.
“Well, Napoli had many great players during my time at the club,” noted Hamsik in his interview with Il Corriere dello Sport via FcInterNews.
“But if I have to choose one who inspired the whole city, then I will say Il Pocho. Lavezzi. It was an honor to play with him, we still speak often.
“I also like to remember Zielinski, one of the strongest midfielders in the world.”
The Polish star spent eight years at Napoli before seeing out his contract at the end of last season. This allowed the 30-year-old to sign for Inter as a free agent in July.
The former Udinese star has yet to make his Nerazzurri debut due to a physical problem that hindered his early days at Appiano Gentile.
Nevertheless, the Beneamata supporters are expecting him to showcase his capabilities on the pitch soon enough. He could even make his debut this weekend against Monza.
