Pescara coach Zdenek Zeman, who shot to fame in the 1990s, is expected to undergo an operation soon after his recent stroke.
The 76-year-old Czech tactician, known for his thrilling but punishing attacking playing style, suffered a mild transient ischemic attack – a brief stroke – back in December. After taking a brief break to recover, he returned to the dugout to lead Pescara in Serie C.
Zeman returned to hospital for a new round of tests on Wednesday and will not be on the bench for the coming league match with Vis Pesaro, entrusting control to assistant coach Giovanni Bucaro and his staff.
As reported by Rete8 via Calciomercato.com, Zeman is now set to undergo a carotid endarterectomy operation in the coming days, possibly as early as Monday next week, in order to help resolve some issues after his recent stroke. He is currently in a stable condition.
Expected to be out with a long recovery considering his age, Pescara are now considering hiring a new head coach to take over, giving the Czech veteran time and space to rest.
