Leganés coach Javier Aguirre has reportedly confirmed that LaLiga clubs will return to action on 20 June with the season scheduled to finish on 26 July.

“I have breaking news, we already have dates for the LaLiga season to resume,” Aguirre told Marca Claro late on Thursday evening.

“We will restart on June 20 and end on July 26. Matches will be played on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

“I am very happy, we will start training tomorrow afternoon as we’ve all tested negative for Covid-19.”

If that is the case, it would mean fitting the remaining 11 fixtures of the season into just over a month.

To do so, clubs would be required to play two fixtures per week, and a report on Thursday suggested the RFEF is planning to allow teams to make up to five substitutions per match in order to minimise the risk of injuries.

Players in Spain’s top division have already begun returning to training, with all clubs having tested their players for Covid-19 symptoms.

Barcelona have already reported that all their players have tested negative for the virus, while the likes of Real Madrid and Atlético are expecting to receive the results of their tests on Friday.

Aguirre’s comments come after the Bundesliga announced on Thursday that it will be the first European league to return to action, with fixtures in Germany set begin again on 26 May.

But the 2019/20 German football season is scheduled to finish on 28 June, meaning they too will have to cram a large number of matches into a short space of time.

Under the RFEF’s proposal, teams in Spain will be permitted to make five substitutions per match, but to avoid time wasting the match will only be stopped three times for changes to be made.
