Leeds v Newcastle tickets went on sale today for away fans.

A lot of talk amongst Newcastle United fans due to the late announcement this week of how to buy tickets, with then the sales process starting only days ahead of the match.

The announcement by NUFC this week didn’t state what the allocation of Leeds v Newcastle tickets was for the away fans.

However, the fact that the club set the initial loyalty points total at 150 or more, left many Newcastle fans fearing a much reduced allocation, as supporters struggled to remember an away match where such a high opening loyalty points total had been set.

In the Premier League, the away fans are usually guaranteed a minimum of 3,000 tickets, or 10% of the total capacity if a stadium holds less than 30,000.

With Elland Road holding over 36,000, fair to say that the expectation had been at least 3,000 Leeds v Newcastle tickets for NUFC supporters. This being the closest PL away match making the demand for tickets even higher than usual, plus of course for the more mature fan…a lot of rivalry back in the 70s and 80s, with some massive away followings heading to Elland Road back in the day.

Looking around the internet for info, I couldn’t find anything on the official Leeds site nor any independent ones, regarding ticket allocations at Elland Road.

However, searching a bit further afield, I found the following from the official Arsenal site ahead of when they played at Elland Road a couple of weeks ago:

Elland Road

Premier League

Saturday, December 18, 2021 Kick Off: 17:30

We have been informed by Leeds United that due to the construction of a TV studio near the away section for this game, the number of tickets within the away allocation has been slightly reduced. We received an allocation of 2690 tickets for this fixture.’

The Leeds v Newcastle tickets for away fans went on sale at 10am this (Wednesday) morning and by the time I went to buy a couple less than 20 minutes after they had gone on sale, it was showing less than 1,100 left. So my guess would be that like Arsenal, Newcastle fans have also got a reduced allocation for Leeds, but potentially even lower than the 2,690 tickets the Gooners got.

I say that because of how quickly there were only 1,100 left on sale after less than 20 minutes. Maybe this work on a TV studio now affecting an even higher number of the usual away seats.

The better news for those still hoping to get away tickets for this Leeds match, I have just checked and at 11.20am on Wednesday morning there are still 983 tickets left, so sales slowing after the initial rush. After all, only so many people will have 150 or more loyalty points. Particularly with so many fans walking away during Mike Ashley’s time in control, when even if you gave up your season ticket for just one year, Ashley punished you by taking all your loyalty points away – even if you then returned and bought again (your Newcastle United account number / registration didn’t alter and still remained, just your loyalty points disappeared!).

Whilst there are still currently over 900 of these Leeds v Newcastle tickets for away fans still currently available, I doubt the loyalty points total will drop much, if at all, before they are sold out.
