Leeds United striker Sonny Perkins has ‘hit the ground running’ since joining from West Ham in the summer, according to Sky Sports reporter Tim Thornton.

The 18-year-old signed a three-year contract upon his arrival at Elland Road after his previous deal with the Hammers expired, joining several young talents to sign for the club in recent years.

What is the latest news involving Perkins?

Perkins started his career at boyhood club Leyton Orient before signing for West Ham in January 2019 where he progressed through the age groups until he eventually made his senior debut.

The talented teenager was handed his maiden first-team appearance for the east London outfit in the UEFA Europa League against Rapid Vienna last term before turning out on two more occasions.

And Perkins was particularly impressive in the youth ranks throughout 2021/22, registering 12 goals and one assist in 21 Premier League 2 appearances and five goal contributions in four outings for the Under-18s.

It has been a similar story for the 5 foot 10 ace in the current campaign where he has found the back of the net on six occasions in his opening five games for Leeds’ Under-21s.

Perkins was also able to translate that form onto the international stage scoring on his England Under-19s debut in a 2-0 victory over Montenegro.

What has Thornton said about Perkins?

Thornton has disclosed that the Leeds hierarchy have been ‘really impressed’ with Perkins since he made the switch to west Yorkshire and that his displays have ‘really caught the eye’.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “Yeah, Perkins in particular, he’s hit the ground running since he came in.

“Leeds have been really impressed with him; he looks like he’s a real talent. So, I know that they’re really, really pleased with the way that he’s adapted. He’s really caught the eye and done well.”

What other youngsters have Leeds signed?
