Leeds United face a daunting trip to face Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday for their first away match back in the Premier League.
Daniel Farke’s side arrive with three points on the board, but their preparations for this tough fixture have been hit by a significant injury blow to a key player.
Daniel Farke confirmed in his pre-match press conference that he will be without captain Ethan Ampadu. The midfielder suffered an MCL injury in the win over Everton and is expected to be out until after the international break.
“It’s a blow for us, and we will miss him,” Farke admitted. Ilia Gruev, who replaced Ampadu as a substitute last week, is the most likely candidate to step into the starting lineup.
Further forward, Farke faces a decision on his new strikers. New signing Noah Okafor is in contention to make his debut from the bench, with the manager stating it is “at least possible” he will feature.
However, fellow new signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s debut appears further away. While Farke praised the striker’s fitness, he emphasised his need for more team training.
“What he has missed is team training, and for that reason, each session is crucial,” the manager explained.
Joël Piroe is set to lead the line again after starting the opening-day victory. In a boost to the squad, defenders Jaka Bijol and Sebastiaan Bornauw are both available again, providing valuable depth.
Leeds United predicted XI: Perri; Bogle, Rodon, Struijk, G. Gudmundsson; Stach, Gruev, Tanaka; James, Gnonto, Piroe.
The Premier League fixture takes place at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, 23rd August 2025, with kick-off scheduled for 5:30pm BST.
The match will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League in the UK. Coverage begins at 5pm BST, and subscribers can stream the action via the Sky Go app.
