In a recent print edition, Jornal de Notícias stated that Leeds United were among clubs interested in Vitória Guimarães winger Marcus Edwards in the past. It is believed that the Whites could face competition from Olympiacos, Sporting and Porto in the race to land the English wide player.

Edwards’ Encouraging Form In Portuguese Football

Edwards has made a decent start to this campaign based on some of his impressive displays for Vitória Guimarães in Portuguese football. The 22-year-old has banged in four goals and picked up two assists in 16 matches for his current employers this season in various competitions.

The London-born talent has proven himself to be a valuable contributor for the Portuguese outfit out on the wide areas as he is averaging 1.9 shots, 1.3 key passes and 2.5 dribbles per game in the Liga Bwin. He has even been excellent with his ball distribution after making 84.1% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).

Should Leeds United Boss Marcelo Bielsa Go Back In For Edwards?

Edwards can make some intelligent runs with the ball and is usually a hard man to stop when he is dribbling at full swing down the right flank. He can orchestrate a few promising chances for his teammates in the final third and can even chip in by scoring the odd goal from time to time.

The English wing wizard is enjoying his time in Portugal and could serve as an ideal target for Leeds United to revisit this winter. At 22, Edwards has the potential to become a regular starter at Elland Road in the coming seasons.

We can expect Edwards to add some firepower to Marcelo Bielsa‘s frontline. His inclusion could help Leeds United challenge across all fronts in English football. The Liga Bwin sensation is primarily a right-sided wide player but can also fill in as a winger on the left flank or even function in the number ten position if needed. Hence, he will undoubtedly enhance the overall depth of Bielsa’s match-day squad. With all things considered, it makes sense for the Whites to go back in for Edwards when the transfer window commences at the start of next year.
