Leeds United have rejected an offer for centre-back Diego Llorente from Spanish side Real Betis, according to BBC Radio Leeds.

The Spanish defender spent last term on loan at Roma in Serie A and though the Italians have been keen to loan him again, he favours a permanent solution.

Real Betis are ready to give Llorente that certainty and have been in talks with Leeds over a permanent transfer.

The club recently did business with Leeds to sign midfielder Marc Roca permanently and they want to follow that up by landing Llorente.

However, Real Betis have now seen Leeds turn down an offer for Llorente, which the Whites feel is not good enough.

The club currently have a lack of centre-backs ahead of the start of pre-season on Monday.

Boss Manuel Pellegrini is keen for another centre-back to be at his disposal by the time pre-season starts, but unless Real Betis go back to Leeds with an improved proposal, it will not be Llorente reporting on Monday.
