It is nothing new for Celtic players, especially those enjoying a great run of form, to be linked with English clubs. There are plenty who have departed Parkhead in order to move down south. Just last summer, we saw Matt O'Riley join Brighton & Hove Albion in a Scottish-record transfer. And there are going to be more in the future.
Daizen Maeda's recent surge in form has put him in the Celtic Player of the Season conversations. But until very recently, Nicolas Kuhn was the only candidate.
Kuhn has been absolutely brilliant this season and exceeded all expectations. It is worth remembering that coming into the campaign, his place in the starting XI was not guaranteed and he had not been particularly impressive in his first half-season with Celtic after joining last January from Rapid Vienna.
That kind of form has naturally seen him being linked with plenty of teams. It remains to be seen if Kuhn ends up leaving Celtic next summer.
Leeds United are one of the clubs that has been linked with Kuhn in recent times. But they have been told that the Celtic winger would not start for them. As reported by Football Insider, Paul Robinson said:
"I don’t think they need a new wide man.“You look at the players they’ve got in those areas, if they can get Manor Solomon in on a permanent deal then they’ve got enough.“You’ve got Willie Gnonto, Dan James, Largie Ramazani and Solomon, there’s quality in those wide areas.“Would Nicolas Kuhn come into the Leeds side and start now? At the moment, he wouldn’t.“Squad-wise, depending on what they’re left with, for me both Dan James and Willie Gnonto are better and would have more of an impact than him.“If it was a decision between Solomon and Kuhn, I think they’re taking Solomon.“Kuhn is a top player and he’s proved he can do it in the Champions League – but when you look at what Celtic paid for him, I don’t think there would be a huge transfer fee involved.“Leeds have to be careful not to end up with an unbalanced squad.“At the moment, they don’t have enough defensive cover or defensive midfield cover.“That’s the area of the pitch they need to look at bringing in new players.“Khun is a top player and would be a good addition to the squad, but is he needed at the moment? No."
Kuhn is a fantastic talent, there is no doubt about that. And many Celtic fans will not agree with the view that he would not start for Leeds United.
Kuhn has proven himself at the Champions League level this season. He scored a brace against RB Leipzig. He also found the back of the net against Bayern Munich away at Allianz Arena and had a goal ruled out in the first leg because Adam Idah was in an offside position. With all due respect, it is hard to imagine that Leeds United have too many players capable of that.
