According to Nicolo Schira, Leeds United are among clubs interested in Calum Chambers. The Arsenal defender is facing an uncertain future at the club, with the Gunners reportedly willing to offload him for a fee of €15 million. Leeds, however, only want a loan deal at the moment while they could also face stiff competition from Premier League rivals West Ham and Newcastle United.

How Does Calum Chambers Fit In At Leeds United?

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa is currently struggling with a lack of depth in the defensive unit. The club has started their Premier League campaign on a positive note, but they have conceded way too many goals, with new signing Robin Koch yet to settle into life at Elland Road, despite a promising display against Fulham.

Chambers, therefore, will primarily be considered as an alternative to both Koch and Liam Cooper in central defence. The Arsenal star has been playing at the highest level of football for a few years now, and his experience could be useful at Leeds United.

From a tactical perspective, Chambers is better fitted as an alternative for Koch as the ex-Southampton star is more technically astute than Cooper, whose leadership and commitment should combine well with the Arsenal defender.

Alternatively, the 25-year-old can also be utilised as a right-back where Leeds only have Luke Ayling and even as a holding midfielder where he can provide the cover for star player Kalvin Phillips.

Chambers’ versatility and experience, therefore, could make him an ideal fit at Leeds United.

Should Leeds United Make A Move For Chambers?

Chambers, on paper, looks like a viable option for Leeds United in their bid to shore up the defensive department. However, it is fair to point out that the defender has been struggling with injuries for the chunk of his career.

The 25-year-old most notably picked up an ACL injury during the end of last year, and it has kept him out on the sidelines for six months already.

Although the Arsenal star hasn’t missed a lot of games thanks to the three-month break from football due to Coronavirus, his lack of game-time over the course of past six months makes him a risky option for Leeds United.

Perhaps a wiser option for Marcelo Bielsa at the moment will be Chambers’ Arsenal team-mate Rob Holding. The 24-year-old is equally experienced at the highest level of football and is known for his robust and aggressive style of play. It should bode well for Bielsa’s tactical philosophy, although it remains to be seen whether Arsenal would want to offload him this summer.
