Leeds United striker Mateo Joseph has insisted that the brace against Chelsea in the FA Cup was a result of a lot of hard work from him behind the scenes and has vowed to continue it.

Joseph scored his first senior goal for the club in their 3-2 FA Cup defeat at Chelsea towards the end of last month.

Signed from the Espanyol academy in 2022, the Spaniard has been working hard with Leeds’ Under-23s and has featured 23 times for the senior side as well.

It was not until the game at Stamford Bridge that Joseph got on the scoresheet for Leeds at senior level but he admitted that he felt good and relieved.

However, he insisted that the goals are not the story as he had to work extremely hard behind the scenes to get to that stage where he got those strikes to his name.

The forward insisted that it was the reward for his hard work and is willing to put in even more hard yards to get similar results.

“It’s not just that, ‘Oh, I scored goals and I am happy’.

“It was really hard work behind [the scenes] so it was like a reward.

“It’s like everything is for a reason and I will do it again to get those rewards.”

Joseph is still waiting for his first start in the Championship this season under Daniel Farke.
