Leeds United currently have no plans to terminate Charlie Cresswell’s loan spell at Millwall in January, according to a report from Football Insider.

The Whites sanctioned a temporary departure from Cresswell earlier this year as he joined the Lions ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

During his time at The Den, the defender has managed to produce some encouraging performances for Millwall.

Cresswell marked his debut for the Lions by scoring a brace in their victory over Stoke City in July.

After featuring in eight of the club’s next 10 league games, the defender was not included in the club’s match-day squad for their clashes with Rotherham United, Middlesbrough, Bristol City and Watford.

The 20-year-old made his return to action as a substitute against West Bromwich Albion in October and his since gone on to make four consecutive starts in the Championship.

scoring his fourth goal of the season in this particular fixture.

With the Lions set to head to the Stadium of Light this weekend to face Sunderland, Cresswell will be hoping to make his 16th appearance of the season against Tony Mowbray’s side.

Millwall will move up to fourth in the second-tier standings on Saturday if they seal all three points on their travels.

The Verdict

When you consider that Cresswell has managed to gain some much-needed senior experience since securing a move to Millwall, it is hardly a surprise that Leeds are not actively looking to recall in January.

Whereas the defender has been handed the chance to showcase his talent at The Den, he may be forced to watch on from the sidelines if he returns to Elland Road due to the presence of Liam Cooper, Robin Koch and Diego Llorente.

By continuing to feature regularly for the Lions, the defender could improve significantly as a player under the guidance of Gary Rowett.

Currently averaging a club-high WhoScored match rating of 7.08 in the Championship, Cresswell will be confident in his ability to play a significant role in Millwall’s push for a play-off place between now and the end of the campaign.
