The Italian is a player that Leeds are not actively looking to sell, but there is top flight interest once more
Leeds United have received a boost in their attempts to hold on to Wilfried Gnonto this summer, as potential buyers Everton have moved for another winger in the form of Napoli's Jesper Lindstrom.
The sale of Archie Gray has alleviated the pressure to offload other top assets like Gnonto and Crysencio Summerville. They received a package from Tottenham Hotspur for the talented teen that equated to £30 million, and this sale now means that Leeds aren't looking to offload either of the wingers, as per the Yorkshire Evening Post.
That hasn't stopped there being plenty of interest in the duo however - yet, both still remain in West Yorkshire for now.
Planet Sport have claimed that Everton believe an offer of £22 million would get the Whites to budge on their position on Gnonto, who contributed 10 goals and assists for Leeds last season where he was overshadowed by Summerville in every department.
Newcastle, who were reported to be interested in Gnonto by TEAMtalk, now appear to be the only other club in the race for him though.
Villa have just re-signed Jaden Philogene from Hull City, whilst Everton are looking at another winger that could have implications on their talks for the pint-sized attacker.
Daniel Farke's side are looking a bit more likely to hold on to the former Inter Milan academy graduate, as Everton have now reached an agreement with Napoli for Jesper Lindstrom - a creative attacking midfielder/winger - according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
That is not necessarily meaning that Sean Dyche's side are completely out of the Gnonto race, but there is a lessening need for the Italian should Lindstrom arrive on Merseyside.
As per TEAMtalk, Everton initially felt that they were in a decent position to get Leeds' man, but iSport have more recently stated that there was an understanding from the Toffees' side of things that a deal for Gnonto wouldn't be easy to do.
That latter outlet mentioned Lindstrom alongside Gnonto in terms of players that Everton were looking to sign this summer. Di Marzio added that the deal for the Dane will be a loan with an option to buy, and that personal terms between Lindstrom and the English club are yet to be sorted.
The Toffees have already done one deal with the Elland Road outfit this summer, as Jack Harrison has returned to Goodison Park for a second straight season on loan.
GiveMeSport however has reported that Sean Dyche's side may look to erwork the terms of the deal and buy Harrison outright in order to give themselves room for another loan spot.
The number of teams that are now likely to be able to, or want to buy Gnonto, are decreasing, thus making any deal where he leaves Elland Road less of a probability.
That's not a bad thing for Leeds. He's got the capability to be one of the top attacking players in the Championship next season, and a player of that nature is always helpful when you're trying to push for promotion.
However, if they can get what they consider to be a decent fee for him, which is likely to be upwards of £20 million, given they rejected bids worth up to £25 million last summer, then they should be open to doing a deal.
Of all the top attacking threats that Farke has at his disposal, whether it be from wide areas or more centrally, Gnonto was one of the less productive ones.
You can certainly argue that he's not as integral to this team's success as others are, like Summerville. So, if they also feel that is the case internally, fetching that sort of money for Gnonto would be good for Leeds.
