Leeds United winger Helder Costa is making exceptional progress in his recovery from injury.

What’s the latest?

That’s according to a report by Leeds Live, who claim that the 27-year-old is already back in fitness training at Thorp Arch, having recovered from his back injury suffered against Manchester United back in April sooner than expected.

It is claimed that the Portugal international should be nearing full fitness upon the start of the club’s pre-season in roughly two weeks’ time.

Bielsa will be delighted

While Costa by no stretch of the imagination had the best season of his career last time out, the amount the former Wolverhampton Wanderers forward featured for Bielsa in the league would appear to indicate that the £9m-rated man is someone whom the Argentine trusts, with his speedy return from injury likely to have delighted the 65-year-old.

Indeed, over his 22 Premier League appearances last season, Costa scored three goals and provided three assists for his teammates, as well as making an average of 1.1 tackles, 0.4 key passes and winning three duels per game.

These returns saw the £36k-per-week winger earn a disappointing seasonal SofaScore match rating of 6.46, ranking him as Leeds’ second-worst performer in the top flight of English football.

However, despite these poor metrics, Bielsa stuck with Costa nevertheless, although, the former Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson recently told MOT Leeds News that the 27-year-old could leave the club this summer, with the Whites being linked with a move for Rubin Kazan winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Either way, the return from injury of the man whom Nuno Espirito Santo dubbed “immense” would appear to be good news for Leeds regardless, as a fully fit player will undoubtedly be easier to sell than an injured one in the summer transfer window, or, if Bielsa does want to retain the winger, the fact that he will have a full pre-season behind him ahead of next season should give Costa the best of chances to get off to a flier next term.
