New MK Dons head coach Mark Jackson is set to utilise his Leeds United links to full effect by sealing a loan move for striker Max Dean, according to Football Insider.

Jackson, who was Leeds’ under-23’s manager for two years until 2022 when he was promoted to Jesse Marsch’s first-team coaching staff, replaced Liam Manning at Stadium MK a number of weeks ago with the Dons struggling in the League One table.

Still in the relegation zone and struggling to score goals, Jackson has now struck a deal to bring Dean to Buckinghamshire for the remainder of the 2022-23 campaign.

The 18-year-old is yet to embark on his first loan spell in the EFL, nor has he made his debut for the United senior side yet, but he has netted four times in five appearances at Premier League 2 level for the under-21’s.

Quiz: Have any of these 25 ex-MK Dons players ever played for a London based team?

Yes No

Last season, Dean scored nine goals across  both under-18 and under-21 teams in 24 outings, but now he is set to step into senior football for the very first time with the Dons.

The Verdict

With MK Dons scoring just two goals in four matches since his appointment, Jackson really does need to make a move for a new striker or two to get the club out of relegation danger.

But perhaps resting the hopes on an 18-year-old with no experience of senior football is asking a lot of someone making their first loan move away from Leeds.

Dean clearly knows where the back of the net is, but there is a big difference between under-21’s football and the hustle and bustle of League One.

Whilst the teenager could easily be a success at the Dons, Dean could just as easily fail to fire – he at least gives the club another option in the final third.
